The free market is our only hope!

When I first learned about the term “useful idiots” I was about ten years old and that was many years ago. I asked my father: what does the term “useful idiots” mean? He went on to explain that it was a term Lenin, the head of the communist party in Russia, used to describe those individuals who blindly supported communism, but they would be the first to fall victims of the communists.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: GOING THE WAY OF VIRGIN BRIDES?

f you suspect that the title of this opusette was, like miniskirts, rag magazine covers and stop signs, deliberately calculated to attract attention, you are spot-on – and equally on target if you sense that it is misleading.
Sorry to disappoint readers to whom an essay on premarital hanky-panky would be of interest, but it is cited above only as an analogy.
The subject du jour is that customer service is rapidly becoming an oxymoron – a contradictory term on the level of pretty ugly, guest host, old news, good grief and legally drunk.

WHAT ARE WE AMERICANS REALLY ENTITLED TO?

Okay, so maybe OWS (Occupy Wall Street) deserves recognition as a legitimate movement, but so does “Number Two,” and neither function furthers the cause of understanding between the have-more and the have-less segments of American society.

A PAIR OF PARADOXEN (SIC) ABOUT LIFE AND DEATH

If ox + ox = oxen, why do we have boxes, foxes and xeroxes instead of boxen, foxen and Xeroxen; and why NOT paradoxen, too? Just a querical point to ponder, unrelated to the more somber opusette following.
It’s strange that so many people see life as a shuttle between tedium and disillusionment – or, as Thoreau put it, “lead lives of quiet desperation,” but shy away from discussions of death – especially their own.

ONLY THE NEWS THAT FITS IS PRINTED (OR AIRED)

Joe klock

For the past century anthensum, the masthead logo of the New York Times has proclaimed that “all the news that’s fit to print” is contained therein.
Were one to accept this as a statement of fact, that same one is likely to believe in the virginity of those attending the Vassar senior prom or the veracity of political speech anywhere from the national stage to the race for Dog Catcher in Rotten Crotch, Wyoming.

HALITOSIS IS BETTER THAN NO BREATH AT ALL

By – Joe Klock, Sr.    The whimsical aphorism headlined above is listed in GOOGLE as Freeman’s Law, but Freeman him-or-her-self cannot be identified any more specifically than the elusive Kilroy of World War II fame or that one truly honest man who was sought in vain both by Diogenes in ancient Greece  and, [...]

Columbus…Hero or Villain?

Throughout the course of human history there has always been an individual with vision and guts that would change the course of human events. A man with a vision but no perseverance would not accomplish anything. Such a man surfaced in the fourteen century and changed the world for century to come. History marks [...]

Out with E Pluribus Unum. In with Ex Unus, Plures.

Over the past two hundred plus years, the guiding ideal in America has been “E Pluribus Unum” or “Out of Many, One.” However imperfectly the people of America came together, that was the motto, the principal which infused our social and political discourse. In later years we called it the great Melting Pot. Whether one was born here or came here, the idea was that we defined ourselves with the same name, American.

WHAT PART OF “ILLEGAL” DON’T I UNDERSTAND?

WHAT PART OF “ILLEGAL” DON’T I UNDERSTAND? By . FOREWORD: Following is a verbatim reprint of my 11/4/07 column, still a timely response to the “backdoor amnesty” currently being used as an end run around the democratic process. JPK Coupla years back, I headed my column with a question about what part of the word [...]

WILL AMERICA SURVIVE?

On December 29, 2008 Andrew Osborn reported in the Wall Street Journal that Prof. Igor Panarin, a Russian academic, has been predicting that the U.S. will fall apart in 2010. Prof. Igor Panarin prediction was somewhat off but close considering the current events in Washington, D.C. He firmly believed that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war and the collapse of the dollar.
