CENTENARY BASKETBALL FUNDRAISER WITH PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 9, 2013
Hackettstown, N.J., February 22, 2013 – Come to Centenary on March 9, 2013, for an evening of basketball and fun! A children’s basketball clinic will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. where children from the ages of 5 to 12 can be mentored by the New York Wizards, a professional basketball team based in Deer Park, New York. Attendees can also stay to watch the New York Wizards game when they take on Centenary staff, faculty and students at 7 p.m. Both events will take place at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. Parking is located at 715 Grand Avenue in Hackettstown.
The cost to attend the clinic is $5 per person and the cost to attend the game is also $5. The children’s basketball clinic will include a “meet and greet” with the Wizards and the game will feature halftime activities for all attendees.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for people in the community to participate in a clinic and be mentored by a professional basketball team, then watch them play a fun game with members of the Centenary community,” says Perricone.
This project is an independent study for Centenary senior Robert Sporman, who is a resident of Hillsborough, under the direction of Centenary College Assistant Professor of Sports Management David Perricone.
A portion of the funds will go to the Perricone’s Family Sports Management Scholarship. This Scholarship was instituted at Centenary College in 2011. It is awarded to one Sports Management student per year who demonstrates leadership skills and volunteers outside of the classroom.
“My parents have taught me and my brother to always give back and remember where you came from,” says Perricone. “The Perricone family is pleased to have established this scholarship and to help provide financial support to a student who aspires to have a career in the sports industry.”
For more information and to register, please contact Professor Perricone at (908) 852-1400, ext. 2357. Interested parties must register for the clinic by March 1, 2013.
