Second Graders Collect PJs For Children In Need

Randolph’s Shongum School second graders collected pajamas for needy children for the Scholastic Reading Club Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. Teacher Ruth Contreras said the second graders collected more than 500 pajamas for children living in group homes, shelters, foster care and in orphanages. This was the third year in a row that the second graders organized the school-wide drive which benefitted the Pajama Program, a non-profit organization which provides the pajamas and books to needy children. Scholastic donates a book to go with every pair of pajamas donated by the students.

Second grader Mason Barrett said he liked helping out with the drive because he has lots of books and pajamas at home “and kids who don’t have books and pajamas should get some.”

“I like books and the world isn’t a fun place without books,” noted Mason, who enjoys reading.
