The Greater Wayne Area branch of AAUW has awarded $2500 scholarships to two women pursuing Bachelor’s degrees at area colleges and universities.
Hannah Retamero Cid, originally from Venezuela, is a student at Rutger’s University Newark, working to achieve an Embryology Laboratory Director qualification from the American Board of Bioanalysis.
Michele Bodden, a native of the Dominican Republic, and a single mother of two, attends Ramapo College and is studying to be a social worker.
The Greater Wayne Area branch, established in 1968, is one of 789 branches of AAUW, a national organization that works to advance gender equity through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Branch members strive to adhere to the mission and advocate for public policies that advance equity for women and girls on a local level.
Membership in the Greater Wayne Area branch is open to anyone who holds a two-year associate’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university. In addition to working on our mission and funding scholarships for women, a membership offers an opportunity to forge new social contacts and friendships through general meetings and a variety of interest groups such as bridge, book club, discussion groups, cooking club and social outings.
If you would like to meet like-minded individuals, you are invited to join the branch. Email email@example.com for more information. You can also visit http://greaterwaynearea-nj.aauw.net/ and the national site, www.aauw.org.
