An Angel of Hope in Denville

For quite some time now, I’ve been working on ways to encourage people during these hard times. At the Christian Drama School of New Jersey, we try to “feel into” and “act out” what Jesus would say and do in any given situation. Many of our families come from different religious backgrounds and political beliefs, so I was trying to imagine what Jesus would say and do to bring people together on Election Day 2020. Since Jesus said a great many things about how to love everyone, I decided to simply make two signs that said “LOVE” and “EVERYONE.” When I went to get paint, I saw Home Depot’s magnificent Christmas angel on display, and I knew she needed to be the messenger on my lawn. I named the angel Hope. I draped Hope in purple fabric to symbolize both political sides coming together, and I bought an American flag mask for her face. Jesus said we put love into action when we feed the hungry, quench the thirsty, clothe the naked, help the sick, visit the prisoner, and welcome the stranger. “Love everyone,” that’s the message of Hope.
