Hopatcong Elementary Schools hosted their annual Community Safety Career Fair on June 6.
Elementary School Counselors Melissa Kennedy, Lisa Schuffenhauer and Christina Takacs organized the event with the support of many staff members. This year, the program grew to include a Bike Rodeo, sponsored by TransOptions. Students participated in helmet fitting and decorating. Free helmets were provided to participants.
There were also bike safety checks, obstacle courses, traffic safety courses, and straight-line challenges.
Hopatcong High School students promoted their Hate Has No Home program with the help of Counselor Mary Ellen Fata, and they served as volunteers and role models at each station. The Hopatcong Ambulance Squad offered tours of the ambulance, safety information and helped students feel comfortable with calling 911. Hopatcong’s Police Department offered tips for summer safety to families and showed the families the police car. Firefighters from Northwood
Fire Department in Hopatcong came to show off the fire truck and talk about fire safety.
