Boy Scout Troop 236 Honors Eagle Scout

William McCartney of Boy Scout Troop 236, in Long Valley, was honored on August 11 at an Eagle Court of Honor at Zion Lutheran Church, Long Valley for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the Boy Scouts’ highest honor. Mr. McCartney marks the 100th Scout to reach Eagle in Long Valley Troop 236.

After High School Mr. McCartney will attend Citadel – Military College of South Carolina where he plans on pursuing Army ROTC with the dream of making the world a safer place and someday becoming a U.S. Senitor. 

Mr. McCartney reflected by saying that scouting has played a key role in his development by teaching him to be a good leader and how to overcome obstacles. 

To earn the Eagle Award, a Scout must be active with a troop, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, assume a position of leadership in the troop and complete a service project that benefits his community.
