Teenagers ages 12 to 18 participated in the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Open House and Air Show as part of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cadet Program for middle school and high school students May 14.
CAP members provided Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) demonstrations, aircraft static displays and event program sales. Some even had the honor of escorting distinguished visitors to the Center Stage. In addition, CAP members provided flight orientation training on computer simulators to young visitors that stopped by the CAP booth. Children also had the chance to pose in the CAP F-16 model.
During the event, CAP members answered many questions from the public about the CAP youth program in areas such as STEM activities, cybersecurity activities, robotics competitions, the Orientation Flight program, basic customs, courtesies, drills and much more.
The Civil Air Patrol Capt. “Bud” Jackson Squadron is open to the youth of Union County (west area) and Morris County (south east area) ages 12 to 18. Cadets meet every Tues., from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Chatham High School in room L10.
