Friends of the Pompton Lakes Library will bring the community together to celebrate Cecil B. DeMille’s films and his connection to Pompton Lakes this summer

In his lifetime, American filmmaker, Cecil B. DeMille brought over 70 films to the silver screen.  The Friends of the Pompton Lakes Library celebrates DeMille’s achievements and his connection to Pompton Lakes this summer during a Film Festival featuring four of his movies.  The Festival will be held at Christ Church, the church the DeMille family attended for many years.

The DeMille Film Festival is planned to run through June and July 2019.  Four films to be announced will be shown at 6:00 p.m. on the following dates, June 11th, June 25th, July 2nd and July 16th.  Commentary from local film historians will provide insight and discussion before each of the films.

The Cecil B. DeMille Film Festival will be held at Pompton Lakes own Christ Church, where the DeMille family worshipped while they lived in the community. Movies will be shown on Tuesday evenings during the months of June and July 2019.  Four of DeMille’s most well-known titles will be featured and will bring to life the work of this epic film producer and director who hails from the Pompton Lakes area.

This program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Passaic County Cultural & Heritage Council from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.  The Friends acknowledge all their local partners for making this Film Festival possible, including the Pompton Lakes Mayor’s Office and Council, the Pompton Lakes BID, the Passaic County Cultural & Heritage Council, NJ Smart Homes & Theater, Cardinal Framing, Christ Church, the Pompton Lakes Women’s Club, TV Land Café, The Pompton Lakes Historic Commission, and Members of the Friends of the Pompton Lakes Library.

Steve Edgeller, President of the Pompton Lakes Library said, “We’re looking forward to showing some of DeMille’s most popular movies and are proud to be screening his films in the place history credits as the inspiration for much of his work.”

“Most of us serve our ideals by fits and starts. The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly.”  Cecil B. DeMille
