Collegiate Sports Update

Domonique Wirsing (Kinnelon High School) is a senior forward for the Montclair State University women’s basketball program this winter. Wirsing played in each of the first 16 regular season games and started in 15 of them for Montclair State. During that time, she averaged 7.8 points per game and had 97 rebounds. She led her team with 37 assists and 22 blocks through 16 games.Through January 12, the Red Hawks posted an overall record of 11-5 and they were 8-1 on their home court. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) they had a mark of 8-1.

Dayna Wich (Pompton Lakes High School) is a junior guard and small forward for the Centenary University (Hackettstown) women’s basketball team this season. Wich played in each of the first 13 regular season games and started in nine of them for Centenary. She had 29 blocks, six steals and five blocks during that span. Wich is listed as a Criminal Justice major. Through 13 games, the Cyclones had an overall record of 3-10 with a 3-3 mark in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).

Kristine Verbeke, a graduate of Wayne Valley High School is junior listed as a Nursing major on the roster of the Felician University (Lodi) women’s bowling squad this year. Verbeke placed 19th overall out of over 120 bowlers at the Virginia Union Invitational held at Bowl America in Glen Allen, Virginia. Felician finished in eighth place in the team scoring. Through 2018, the Golden Falcons had an overall record of 13-22. On February 23 and 24, they are slated to take part in the Molloy Invitational at AMF East Meadow Lanes in East Meadow, New York.

Sophia Ciaravino (Passaic County Tech) is on the roster as a sophomore competitor in freestyle events for the Montclair State University women’s swimming and diving program this season. Ciaravino had her team’s third best time thus far all season in 1,650 freestyle event with a time of 20:15.26 at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in November. She also had her team’s fourth top time so far this season in the 1,000 free with a time of 12:06.15 in a meet versus The College of New Jersey in October. Through six meets, the Red Hawks had an overall record of 3-3 and they were 2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). On February 22 through February 24, they will participate in the Metropolitan Championships in New Brunswick, NJ.

Maryann Ramirez (Passaic County Tech) is on the roster as a freshman for the Caldwell University women’s bowling team this year. Ramirez is listed as a Chemistry major. In matches through December, the Cougars had an overall record of 17-23.
