On Thursday, October 17, Patriots’ Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored Gilbert Haas with the 2019 “Good Scout Award”. Gil, who is a committee member of Long Valley Troop 236, was one of four recipients of this year’s award. Gil is the president of Haas Laser Technologies which he founded in 1992, which manufactures industrial laser components. His company is recognized as a worldwide innovative leader in the field holding over 25 national and international patents. Gil was recognized for his continuing commitment to community service. He serves on the Executive Board of the non-profit Laser Institute of America. He has been involved with this organization since 2015 and his work on the recent restructuring of the organization was instrumental to bring them out of insolvency. Gil has also sponsored several FIRST Robotics clubs and local soccer teams over the years. Along with his wife Ann he participates in and sponsors the annual Long Valley Science Fair. In his spare time Gil is an avid builder of classic collector cars. In addition to showing his cars at various car show Gil also often sponsors and judges at these shows. Troop 236 has been blessed to have Gil continue his volunteer work on the Troop committee despite the fact that his son earned his Eagle rank and age out of the Troop over three years ago.
