Hollywood-Themed Fundraiser Planned In West Orange

The West Orange Arts Council will host its third anniversary fundraiser from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at the West Orange Arts Center in West Orange.

The event’s Hollywood theme includes a red carpet entrance, photo booth, silent auction, door prizes (original artwork and vintage movie posters) and Hollywood themed activities. It is also the opening of the annual West Orange Arts Council Members Exhibition, with works of art on view by local artists.

“Art is everything,” said this year’s honoree, Ken Mandel. “It helps us learn to appreciate others.” Mandel praised West Orange for its inclusive community of artists.

Mandel won an Emmy award in 1993 for his documentary “George Marshall and the American Century.” His work as creator and chair of the West Orange Classic Film Festival for the past decade and a half is emblematic of his activity as a board member of the West Orange Arts Council, West Orange Film Society and community arts.

The West Orange Classic Film Festival that takes place in the town where Thomas Edison invented movies will return in January, giving lovers of cinema a chance to experience their favorite films as they were meant to be seen: on the big screen.

Attendees are invited to participate in a silent auction with donations from local businesses, artists and art supporters. Food will be provided. Tickets cost $40 and can be purchased on the West Orange Arts Council website at www.WOARTS.org.
