The Bridge is deeply saddened to share the news that John J. Clancy, founder of The Bridge, has passed away.
The Bridge was born out of John’s passion to care for young people in need. John and his friend Bill West, who also shared his fervor, put their commitment into action and began meeting with teenagers in the West Essex area in 1969. Not long after, another friend, Jon Thompson, who shared their same vision, joined them and the roots of The Bridge, a community-based non-profit organization, were established in 1971.
Over the years, The Bridge has significantly grown and expanded, yet the essence of that original mission — to provide behavioral health care services designed to strengthen and support the family and promote the personal growth of children, adolescents, adults and seniors — has been unwavering in its commitment to serving others.
We owe a sincere debt of gratitude to John for his vision, passion, commitment, and for holding the torch for others during times of deep pain and personal crisis.
