Join local historian, author, and Morris County Historical Society Board of Trustees member Peter J. Tamburro, Jr. when he presents “How Newspapers Reported Presidential Elections from George Washington to Barack Obama,” on Thur., Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Morristown and Morris Township Library in Morristown.
The presentation is based on Tamburro’s extensive, personal collection of rare, original newspapers, spanning four centuries. These newspapers illustrate the historical development of election reporting, and therefore, represent a historical record of their time. Highlighting the presentation will be an original copy of the famous, erroneous front page headline “Dewey Defeats Truman” from “The Chicago Tribune.” This free presentation is in recognition of the highly anticipated 2016 presidential election, and is a collaboration of the Morris County Historical Society and the Morristown & Morris Township Library.
Seating is limited; to make reservations contact the MCHS at 973-267-3465 orMCHSAcornHall@gmail.com.
This presentation is part of the Jeanne Watson Memorial Speakers Program, a continuing lecture series created by the Morris County Historical Society in honor of Jeanne Hamilton Watson, first executive director of the MCHS,1980-1996. The newspapers, and other related original documents, will be displayed at Acorn Hall, beginning Sun., Oct. 30.
