The seventh annual Northern NJ Free to Breathe 5K Lung Cancer Walk is set to take place on Sun., Oct. 2, 9 a.m. to noon, at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna, to raise awareness and funds to assist the fight against lung cancer. The disease kills more American men and women than any other cancer, yet remains one of the least funded.

Organized by Free to Breathe, proceeds from the event will benefit lung cancer research, education and awareness programs. Free to Breathe seeks to make surviving lung cancer the expectation, not the exception. Its mission: double the five-year survival rate, currently 16 percent, by 2022.

Cost to walk is $15-$30.
