The Mayo Performing Arts Center will present Shrek the Musical,’’ Friday, June 1 through Sunday, June 3.
Tickets range in price from $20 to $30. Showtimes are: Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 3 at 2 p.m.
The show will feature a cast of over 50 young performers ranging in age from 7 to the 20-soemthing. The show will be directed by Cathy Roy. The musical director/conductor is Charles Santoro.
“We are so excited to be presenting “Shrek the Musical,” said Roy, MPAC’s director of education. “This lighthearted musical has a great score, a hilarious book and is popular with audiences of all ages. It’s central theme of acceptance and inclusion is so relevant in today’s society and reminds us that ‘what makes us different is what makes us strong!'”
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.
