Meet An Author, Learn About Gardens And Social Security
Roxbury Library has some interesting events coming up.
On Sat., Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. meet Rita Gigante, author of “The Godfather’s Daughter.”
On the surface, Rita Gigante’s family looked like all the other families in her suburban New Jersey neighborhood. But behind closed doors, they had a secret – her father, a notorious crime boss named Vincent “the chin” Gigante, was the leader of the Genovese crime clan and the head of all five New York crime families.
Meet Gigante and learn about her childhood and the book she wrote. Rita will take readers on her emotional and spiritual journey growing up on the fringes of the underworld. Patrons will have the opportunity to purchase the book and have it signed at this event. Registration is requested.
On Thurs., Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m., Black Gold for Your Garden- Composting Simplified.
Everyone has kitchen scraps, clippings from house and garden plants, leaves and brush available for recycling from our homes and gardens. Why not take some time and a little effort to turn these resources into compost? Gardeners call compost “black gold.” By adding just a half inch layer of compost to soil is a perfect way to grow better flowers and vegetables. The topic of vermicompost (worm culture) will also be covered.
Join Rutgers Master Gardener Wing-Yee Pavlosky at the Roxbury Public Library and learn how by mixing larger quantities of “black gold” into your soil before planting your fruits and vegetables will ensure a beautiful garden and a bountiful harvest. Registration is requested.
