Mendham Team Cheers Its Way To Second Place Nationally
[drops]For the first time in 12 years the West Morris Mendham High School Varsity Competition Cheerleading Team became national finalists!
Nationals were held Feb. 4 -8 in Orlando, Fla., at Disneyworld, and the Mendham team earned its participation after it won the Garden State Title on Jan. 10 when it competed in the Universal Cheerleaders Association North Eastern Regional-Garden State Championship meet in Bridgewater against hundreds of teams.
Competing on that national stage for the 10th consecutive year, the Mendham team competed in two divisions this year: Medium Varsity Game Day and Small Varsity Division I.
The team finished second place in the nation for the Medium Varsity Game Day, losing first place by .3 of a point.
This is the highest finish in school history at the national championships.
For the Small Varsity Division 1, the Mendham cheerleaders finished in 13th place.
“Both are really big accomplishments and a perfect way to end our incredible season together,” says Amanda Porter, who has coached them for the past three years. “I couldn’t be more proud.”
