Milburn Schools Offer Social Skills Parent Workshop

Parents of students receiving Special Services are invited to join Millburn District Behaviorist Dr. Christopher Mesopotanese and Middle School Psychologist Dr. Michael Appelgren on Oct. 19 at 9:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the board room at the Ed. Center for the first in a series of hour-long Social Skills Parent Workshops.

The initial workshop offers parents an overview of social skills topics. Mesopotanese and Appelgren will review various approaches and strategies for teaching social skills, such as direct instruction, modeling, facilitated practice/role-playing, and social stories. They will also address techniques for generalizing social skills, including priming and reinforcement. Other topics will be: social skills across different age groups and the use of technology such as iPad and applications.
