The passport agents in the Morris County Clerk’s Office have received the Certificate of Excellence Award for 2016 from the U.S. Department of State’s National Passport Center.
This spring, the county’s passport agents underwent a review of the
methods and procedures related to the processing of applications for U.S.
Passports, and practices and policies mandated by the State Department.
“This recognition is well deserved by our passport team, who serve with
dedication, professionalism, courtesy and who offer a smile to the many
people who visit the office,” said County Clerk Ann Grossi, who
oversees the passport operation.
“They are the face of county government to many people who visit
their office, and they represent all of us very well.’’
Passport agents must take a test and be re-certified annually to perform their duties.
The federal auditor who reviewed the Morris County Passport Office “was very impressed with your facility and found everything in compliance’’ with federal standards, according to a letter from the Department of State. “We are happy to say that no required improvements were listed for your facility. Congratulations.’’
Acceptance Agents for U.S. passports have a key role helping U.S. citizens get passports. They provide residents with passport application forms, help guide
them through the passport process for new or renewed
passports, handle replacements for lost, stolen or
damaged passports; and must thoroughly review
applications and verify each applicant’s identity.
The Morris County Clerk’s Passport Office, directed by
Maureen Grieco, processed 7,608 passports in 2015 and
5,711 so far in 2016.
The Passport Office has three full-time and eight part-time agents. It operates Mon., Thurs., and Fri., 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tues. and Wed., 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is requested that walk-ins arrive one hour before closing.
The Passport Office is located on the first floor of the Morris County Administration and Records Building in Morristown.
