MOUNT OLIVE TWP. (June 14, 2019) – The Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce recently recognized four recipients from their annual scholarship awards, which include two high school students and two college students. The four were recognized at the Chamber’s Business and Humanitarian Awards Dinner on June 13. 

John Bigger and Sarah Leonard, both of whom attend Mount Olive High School, will receive a $750 scholarship. Madeline Crisp and Margaret Schaffer, current college students, each earned a $500 scholarship toward their education through the MOACC Family Scholarship, open to family members of current Chamber members.

Bigger is headed to the Georgia Institute of Technology to major in Computer Science and Business. An Eagle Scout and NJ Scholar, Bigger was inducted into numerous national honors societies, attended the Governor’s School in the Sciences residential program, and dedicated his time to business and science-based clubs and local volunteerism.

Leonard will study Business Analytics and Operations Management at the University of Maryland, College Park campus, come fall. A member of multiple national honor societies, Leonard is a proven leader and has been active at school in academics, athletics, and school government.

The Chamber also honors member’s children with scholarship opportunities as well. 

Crisp, daughter of MOACC member Cheryl Crisp, submitted an essay called “The Biochemistry of My Life.” She is currently studying molecular biology with minors in Irish and History at the University of Pittsburgh.

Schaffer, daughter of member Patrice Schaffer, is pursuing an Associate Degree in Musical Theater at County College of Morris. She discussed her love of volunteerism in her application essay.

The scholarship recipients were recognized at the Chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, June 13.
