Mount Olive’s Richard Moore Receives Cissy Laurey’s Award Nomination

Richard Moore has volunteered with the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Olive since 1995. He is club president, a position he’s held for the past 12 years.

Together with his wife, Kelly, they created “Caring with Bears.” Whether it be a hospital stay, a police situation or other crisis, the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Olive provides comfort bears to local first responders and hospitals, who in turn, make them available to children in potentially traumatic situations. There is no worse feeling for a child than being nervous and alone in the hospital.

This project, chaired by Richard’s wife, Kelly, has provided over 300 comfort bears to children in and around Mt. Olive area.

In addition, Richard promotes the Mt. Olive Food Pantry through the Kiwanis Club volunteers.

Along with the Administration of Mt. Olive, he decided to relocate the Santa House to Turkey Brook Park for all to enjoy. The Santa House receives many visitors throughout the holiday season.

In a blink of an eye, Richard magically turns into Santa, as well.
