Museum Plans After School Program

The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts plans to hold a Design a Shop Sign’ class for children on Aug. 30, and will hold after-school creativity classes in the Madison museum throughout the fall.

Participants in the Aug. 30 class will design, create and decorate a sign for their own imagined business.  Later, there will be a METC Travel Stories Welcome Home Party, a free event to celebrate summer adventures and mourn the end of summer. The party starts at 4 p.m.  and includes refreshments.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and is $45 per child. No registration is required.

The after-school program will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 25, Oct. 2, Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Oct. 23, Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Nov. 27. Dec. 4 will be a make-up day.

Each week, students work with different materials for a design or artistic challenge inspired by METC’s historic collection and building. From making a building out of everyday objects to painting without a paintbrush, the program engages participants’ hands and minds in a different way each week. It is for students in grades one through five and will be held from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. The price is $95 per child. A 10 percent discount is offered for METC members and for additional siblings. Pre-registration is required.
