New book on early Supreme Court history

Morristown National Historical Park is pleased to announce the publication of a new book by their Chief of Cultural Resources, Dr. Jude M. Pfister. The book–The Creation of American Law: John Jay, Oliver Ellsworth, and the 1790s Supreme Court–studies the first decade of the United States Supreme Court. Published by McFarland Press, the book fills the need for a stand-alone narrative of the pre-John Marshall court. Among the many sources utilized was the parks own Lloyd W. Smith Archival and Rare Book collection. Park Superintendent Tom Ross commented that “Works of broad interest connecting us to our shared past are vital portals in our efforts to expand our outreach and ensure our connection with current scholarship is maintained. The efforts of our staff should be recognized and we wish Dr. Pfister every success with this work.”
