On a glorious late-summer afternoon, parents, grandparents and children gathered at Dover’s Water Works Park for a Family Fun Day sponsored by the non-profit, state-licensed El Primer Paso (First Step), a highly accredited preschool in Dover.
El Primer Paso, which has been in continuous operation since 1969, offers a bilingual preschool program for three- and four-year-olds, plus early-day child care opening at 7 a.m. and after-school child care, until 6 p.m. The school is accredited by the prestigious National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and provides support for young English language learners as they make the transition from Spanish to English and prepare to enter kindergarten. El Primer Paso also offers free English as a second language classes for adults.
The Family Fun Day featured an array of activities, from a pint-sized obstacle course and basketball hoop to a slide, a water-balloon toss, a family soccer game, hula hoops, football toss, face-painting, craftmaking, board games and lots of food.
Many volunteers helped to make the event a success, including members of the Dover Area 3 Special Olympics Volunteers.
