Packanack Community Church celebrating 75 years

It began in the late 1940s when Reverend Jacob H. Cunningham was visiting his in-laws in Packanack Lake. As a graduate student at Columbia University, he was searching for a doctoral project, which ultimately became “The Religious Needs of the Small Rural Community.” He mailed a questionnaire to 400 area families to ascertain their religious needs. While it was never his purpose, the response became the beginning of a new lakeside congregation.

The first congregational meeting was held on February 27, 1947, and from it, the Packanack Community Church was born. Dr. Cunningham agreed to serve as the interim minister until June, and the first service was held at the Packanack Clubhouse on March 2, 1947. Despite a major snowstorm, 226 people showed up.

On September 25, 2022, the members of the church will again gather at the Packanack Clubhouse to celebrate their 75th Diamond Jubilee, and you are invited!

The celebration will commence following a special Sunday morning church service and will immediately be followed by a luncheon catered by Packanack Lake Barbeque Club.

While this event is certainly open to all current and past members, everyone in the community is welcome.

Tickets are $35.00 per person with children under 10 years free and may be purchased through the church website: or by mail to PCC 120 Lake Drive East Wayne, NJ 07470. Advanced registration is strongly suggested with limited tickets available at the door on the day of the event.

A special 75th Anniversary Commemorative Book will be available for purchase.
