Alexandra Parrillo recently completed her Gold Award. Parrillo was passionate about bringing awareness to the Deaf community and educating the children in Mount Olive about ASL. She started by teaching classes at Tinc Road School to 3rd and 4th graders and holding ASL story time at the town library for kids. Her main goal was to have ASL taught as a class at the high school, so she presented her proposal to the Board of Education. Loving the idea, the class will now be offered this summer for students and hopefully offered again this coming fall.
“I encourage all Girl Scouts to work on getting their Gold Award. It’s an amazing accomplishment and the feeling of achieving your goal is priceless,” Parrillo said. “It feels amazing to see something great happen in your community and know that it was all because of you and your hard work. Lastly, I want to thank my mom. This wouldn’t be possible without her. Thank you, mom, I love you.”
