Photography, Book Club, Trips, Courses Offered To Chatham Seniors

Senior Services Of The Chathams has a busy schedule through August.

Digital Photography Lessons are planned for Fri., July 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 10 a.m.  No charge.  Chatham High School student volunteer instructor.  If interested, call Center at 973-635-4565 for session details.   Open to non-Chatham residents too; www.chathamseniorcenter.org.

DVD Series, Mon., July 11 – Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m.  A summer “mixed bag” of documentaries.  Call the center for details. No need to sign up.

Nutrition Series, Tues., July 12, at 12:45 p.m., “Healthy Hydration,” and Tues., Aug. 9 at 12:45 p.m, “Easy Meal Planning.” Both summer topics presented by Jenn Luster, registered dietician from Chatham ShopRite. Always a tasting!  No sign-up.  Senior bus available for transport for Chatham residents only.  Participants do not need to be Chatham residents.

AARP Smart Driver Course, Mon., July 25, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.  Defensive driving program geared for the “over 50” population.  Offers help with age-related changes and can earn you certification for insurance discount.  $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members.  Will be completed in one full-day session with breaks.  Bring lunch; snacks and drinks are provided. Must reserve. 

Nonfiction Book Group, Fri., July 29, at 11 a.m. the Senior Center Non-Fiction Book Group will discuss “Eruption: The Untold Story of Mount St. Helens” by Steve Olson.  All welcome to attend.  Senior bus available for transport for Chatham residents.

  

One-On-One Tech Assistance, Fri., Aug. 5 and 12 from 9 a.m. -11 a.m.  Call center to make an appointment with Chatham High School student volunteer to help with any questions/concerns regarding personal devices and laptops.

Men’s Discussion Group Of Current Events, Fri., at 10:30 a.m. Participants have found this to be a good venue for informal discussion on timely topics as well as a sharing of their past experiences. No prior membership required and all area gentlemen are welcome.

Meditation Sessions, Fri., at 11 a.m.-noon. Cost is $5 per session. Cesar Godoy will facilitate.

Reflections, Tues., 2 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.  Women’s friendship and support group discusses issues that concern mature women.  New members always welcome! 

Trip Planning – The Culinary Institute of America & the FDR Presidential Library, Thurs., Nov. 10, 7:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.  Visit the world famous CIA, for a guided tour of the 170-acre facility, home of award-winning restaurants, and located on the banks of the scenic Hudson River. A three-course lunch will be served in the Caterina De Medici Restaurant. After lunch, visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library, America’s first presidential library and the only one used by a sitting president, for a self-guided tour. If time allows, explore the grounds and Rose Garden, where Franklin and Eleanor are buried.    Cost: $87, includes bus, tours and lunch. Reserve early.  Payment no later than Thurs., Oct. 13.
