Pompton Lakes Health Dept. Offers an Osteoporosis Prevention Screening

The Pompton Lakes Health Department, in conjunction with Chilton Medical Center, is pleased to offer a Bone Density Screening on Monday, May 6th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Pompton Lakes Municipal Building, 25 Lenox Ave, Pompton Lakes. The screening consists of a painless bone density test that measures bone density through the wrist and will be followed by health education counseling. The fee for the screening is $10 and credit cards are not accepted. This screening is NOT intended for those who have already been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Space
is limited and appointments are required. Call the Pompton Lakes Health Department at 973-835-0143 ext. 235 for an appointment.
Osteoporosis is a disease in which the bones become weak and are more likely to break.
According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, approximately 54 million people in the United States either already have osteoporosis or are at risk due to low bone mass. Osteoporosis can occur in both men and women and at any age, but it is most common in older women. There are a number of steps that can be taken to slow down bone loss. The Pompton Lakes Health Department encourage you to come out to this low-cost screening to assess your risk for osteoporosis.
