Randolph Middle School Principal Dr. Dennis Copeland has announced that eighth grader Melissa Narvaez has received the Morris County Superintendent Middle School Leadership Award.
The award was presented at a recent dinner on May 1.
“I am extremely proud of her and all of her efforts and dedication that she has provided to the Randolph Middle School community,” Copeland said. “She is a model student and person.”
Narvaez said she is very excited to receive the award and attributed her success to her middle school teachers. “I have wonderful teachers at Randolph Middle School who push me to become the best that I can be,” she said. “They have inspired me to become a better student
and a better person.”
Narvaez enjoys the arts, singing and playing guitar and also performs at many charity events, she said. She also thanked her parents, who are very supportive. Narvaez, who is bilingual, is an excellent student and spends her holiday break in December in Columbia teaching English to
less fortunate children at a school.
Narvaez was selected from four finalists at the middle school. Each team of teachers recommended a student to participate in the program. The four students then had to write an essay and Melissa was selected by a committee.
