On May 17, Niki Dawson, director of the Montclair Animal Shelter, addressed the Rotary Club of the Caldwells at it’s regular meeting held at the Cloverleaf Tavern. Discussing the recreant fire, “Dawson said all animals were evacuated and sent out for fostering at residents’ homes. They are looking to find permanent homes for some of animals. She said the shelter’s rear kennel and part of its roof were destroyed. The shelter is taking monetary donations, food, and of course looking for permanent homes for animals.
The Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS) has also started an online fundraiser to cover short-term repairs that can get animals and staff back into its building and then a more extensive remodeling of the aged building. The campaign’s goal is $225,000. FOMTAS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation so all donations are tax deductible.
