Senior Adult Forum Planned For Residents To Discuss Concerns

Livingston residents are invited to a Livingston Senior Adult Forum set for Tuesday, Sept. 25, from noon to 2p.m., at the Livingston Senior/Community Center in Tahaney rooms 1, 2, & 3. Sponsored by the Township of Livingston’s Town Council and the Livingston Senior Advisory Committee, lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m.
The purpose of the forum is to have as many seniors present to discuss their concerns with Town Council members. Currently, these concerns are brought up by the Senior Advisory Committee members to Rudy Fernandez who represents the Livingston Town Council on the committee. Advisory Committee members only represent a fraction of the Livingston population and the Livingston Town Council is interested in hearing from a broader base of the 62+ community.
Selected topics to be discussed at the forum include:
Communication – Are the means of communication utilized by the municipality effectively reaching ages 62+?  What means of communication should we be using more effectively?
Transportation – Is the current transportation services offered by the township addressing the need?
Parking – Is current parking at i.e. Senior/Community Center, public library, Town Hall meeting seniors’ needs?  Evening programs may need transportation.
Other services – Why aren’t “seniors” 62+ more engaged in the programs/events the SYLS offers?
Other issues include: Cleanliness at LSCC and other buildings utilized for programming i.e. Northland and Monmouth Court; perhaps outsourcing a cleaning service. A need for more garbage cans and recycling bins at the events adequately marked. New water fountains to more recent version, i.e. water bottle. Having a nurse in the LSCC building at all times. Renovate /add “cafe” area where people can socialize and bring lunch.
Provide building supervisor in lower level during certain hours. Recycling/garbage bins moved for those homebound or unable to carry bins outside to curb.
