Team Chemistry Guides Fourth Championship Title To RHS Golf Team

It was another successful season for the Roxbury High School Golf Team.
On Monday, June 18, the team was recognized at the Roxbury Township Board of Education meeting for its fourth consecutive title of Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference National Division Champions.
It was a rough beginning for the team. With snow covering practice courses until a few days before their first match, “the team began the season putting in the library,” explains junior, Ryan Sclar. Obviously, that didn’t stop them. Along with the team’s skill, Sclar says the team’s chemistry played a big role throughout the season.
“Whether it was hanging out after practice, celebratory Big Macs from McDonalds, or bus rides, I think our team chemistry was really strong.”
The soon to be senior has been golfing his whole life and acknowledges what the game has taught him.
“I feel like golf has taught me etiquette,” says Sclar. ”It has taught me to respect the rules of the game, my teammates, and my opponents.”
Sclar is looking forward to his fourth and final season as a senior on the golf team.
This was Coach Dave Monaco’s first year as head coach and says the highlight of the season was “finishing 10-5, 8-0 in the conference to become NJAC National division champs.” With six of his seven players returning next year, he looks “forward toward continuing the growth of the program,” he said.
In order to prepare for next year’s season, he says, “The players’ main focus is playing a lot of golf in the off season and working on their short game.”
