270 individuals and 24 teams joined the Randolph Education Foundation’s Randolph Rocks Virtual 5K between June 4 and 14. The event raised $17,884 and had support from more than 30 businesses and local merchants.
Since 2010, the REF has organized the annual 5K as an effort to rally the community in support of initiatives that promote innovation, creativity, school readiness and wellbeing in the Randolph schools. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was held virtually this year for the first time. Participants were able to complete the 5K in their own time and in their own way. Some walked while others jogged, ran, or hiked.
“We wanted to bring our community together in a way that was safe and fun but did not really know what to expect given the circumstances.” said Lissa Alexander, the race co-director with Kelly Krauss. “We are so grateful with the Randolph community for supporting our virtual 5K this year, it was really exciting to see the response as the number of registrations, donations and sponsorships went up.”
Prizes for top fundraisers were awarded to James Parkinson (under-18 category) and Nicole Lintner. Door prize baskets were also awarded during the race days. The winners were picked randomly from all who registered and raised $25 or more. The recipients of the door prize baskets were Rebecca Fisher, Kristin Witte, Jared Vichengrad, Rachita Chandak, Nathaniel Ubinski, Karen Loveys, and Rob Tallman.
A team of volunteers led by Alexander and Krauss was responsible for the planning and execution of the race. Special thanks to Sue Adler, Margaret Clark, Virna Cothrin, Randi Goldberg, Erin Misurelli, Liz Olechowski, and Jennifer Peel.
More than 30 businesses and local merchants contributed to the success of the event.
