Watchung Arts Hosts Cancer Research Fundraising Concert

The Watchung Arts Center recently hosted “Music for Life,” a concert to benefit the American Cancer Society’s effort to fund cancer research. Performers included Millburn High School Students Eric Guo, Eliza Tagle, and Ethan Zhang, Grace Zong (Kent Place School), James Hwang (Livingston High School), and Sophia Hu (Mendham High School).

The concert was inspired by a fellow piano student who was diagnosed with cancer and who has been undergoing treatment with inspiring courage. All the performers have won top prizes in various piano and cello auditions and competitions and have performed in winners’ recitals in various concert stages including the Weill Recital Hall in New York’s Carnegie Hall.

The performers study under classical concert pianist and music educator Beatrice Long. The program included music by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, Albeniz, Liszt and Franck for piano solo, piano duet, and piano/cello duet.

“Music for Life” was held at the Watchung Arts Center on Oct. 20. The performers played to a full house, with all tickets sold out. Those who were unable to get tickets sent in donations.  A portion of the proceeds also benefitted the Watchung Arts Center’s program of spreading the arts to the community.
