The Wayne Interfaith Network (WIN) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that operates a food pantry for Wayne residents. Their coalition of volunteers come from churches, synagogues and other organizations throughout the Township. Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable food may do so by appointment only. For more information about WIN, and to see a list of what the pantry needs most, visit www.winfoodpantry.org.
Two Wayne synagogues, Shomrei Torah and Temple Beth Tikvah, recently sponsored their annual High Holiday non-perishable food and basic necessities drives amid the restraints and restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These essential annual drives are vital in helping to stock the WIN food pantry for the coming winter months.
While the food pantry has been physically closed during this long stretch, workers and donors alike have not been idle. Currently there are over 165 families receiving support from WIN and they have all been receiving supermarket gift cards, on a monthly basis, to assist in their purchase of groceries. WIN thanks all those Wayne area residents, organizations and businesses that donated generously during the height of the pandemic this spring and summer. Special thanks go to Mayor Chris Vergano who, during his daily COVID-19 briefings, encouraged residents to send checks to WIN, as well as other groups that were trying to meet community needs.
While the food pantry is beginning to return to normal activity, WIN is also well aware of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Special accommodations will need to be made for this year, so WIN is encouraging all individuals and service-oriented organizations (religious, ethnic, cultural, political, educational, etc) to consider helping them provide for local families in need by sending checks or supermarket gift cards earmarked for “Thanksgiving”. Please send them to the Wayne Interfaith Network, PO Box 3341, Wayne NJ 07474-3341.
If you, or someone you know is in need of assistance from the WIN food pantry, please contact the Wayne Township Director of Senior and Social Services at 973-694-1800, ext. 3281 who screens all potential recipients.
WIN is a 501(c)(3) organization. WIN is a 100% volunteer organization and all funding comes exclusively from donations with no government subsidies.
