WOHS Spring Musical Production of “Aida” To Premiere

The West Orange High School Drama Department has announced that their Spring Musical, “Aida,” will debut on March 31.

The Tony-winning musical for Best Score by Elton John and Tim Rice frame the reworking of Guiseppe Verdi’s classic opera with contemporary music and sensibility.

The tried-and-true epic plot of love, loyalty and betrayal chronicles the love triangle between Aida, a captured Nubian princess; Amneris, an Egyptian princess preparing to take the throne, and Radames, an Egyptian soldier engaged to Amneris who falls in love with Aida without knowing her true identity.

The plot twists and turns through treachery, murder, and selflessness while featuring soaring ballads and rousing choral anthems. Aida becomes a modern twist on a classic tale that will speak to young and old.

Performances will be March 31, April 1, and April 2 at 7 p.m. with an April 3 matinee at 2 p.m. A special performance for West Orange senior citizens will be held March 30 at 6:30 p.m. free of charge.
