The mission of Skylands Songwriters Guild (SSG) is to inform the public about songwriting as an art form and to educate those involved in the craft on how to achieve their full artistic potential as writers and performers of original works of music. To that end, SSG is offering several performance opportunities and educational resources for the 2017 season.

SSG offers a Monthly Songwriter Showcase & Acoustic Open Mic at Enzo’s Pizzeria.

This casual gathering takes place year-round every 3rd Thurs. of the month, with a focus on original music. Local and regional songwriters and music enthusiasts gather for a night of music and camaraderie! Open to the public with a $5 cover and food and drinks available for purchase. Hosted by Clark and Renee Paddock, Skylands Songwriters Guild founders.

Open Mic segment is set to kick off the evening at 7 p.m. All levels welcome, from burgeoning songwriters to accomplished entertainers. The feature artist follows, playing an intimate set of their own songs and sharing insight into how they approach their craft along with anecdotes of their artistic journey. Come to listen or share a few songs!

Jan. 19 the feature Songwriter is Mark Cucuzella.  An avid cyclist who also loves to write original tunes, frequently using a 12-string guitar, Cucuzella is new to the songwriters scene and is excited about sharing his soothing creations.

Feb. 16 will feature songwriter, PD Brody. Self described “as a man, a guitar, four chords and a story to tell.” P.D. Brody has played in many a venue in New Jersey and beyond.

March 16 the feature songwriter is set to be Carolyn Messina.  A life-long musician, Carolyn continues to write songs. Now with the support and encouragement of her friends, family and fans, she is pursuing her childhood dream: to record a CD of brand new original songs, as well as some re-arrangements of old favorites.

A Night of Songwriters at the Inn is set for Fri., Jan. 27 at The Inn at Millrace Pond at 7 p.m.  Join us for an evening featuring three talented regional Songwriters! The cozy tavern room with fireplace will be the setting for enjoying the tunes of these accomplished Skylands Songwriters Guild members. Great food and grog available. 7th Annual Groove in the Grove a Indie Songwriter Music Festival is set for Sat., June 10 at Vasa Park at 1 p.m.  Bringing the best regional songwriters to Northwest New Jersey! Offering an afternoon full of original music in a shaded, park-like setting with on-site playground, plenty of parking and interesting vendors. Festival food & adult beverages available for purchase. Always great music, food and fun! Bask in the sun or relax in the shade while grooving to some awesome tunes! Perfect for the whole family!
