Sedation Dentistry is an exciting relaxation advancement to be able to offer to the 30 percent people who fear the dentist. Whether there is an outright fear and anxiety, or are undergoing a long procedure, sedation dentistry helps to manage these concerns.
Fear & Anxiety
Many people stay away from long-needed dental care due to fear and anxiety. Does it sound intriguing to be able to wake up from a nap and have years of dental problems gone and corrected? Dr. Ira Goldberg offers many different Sedation Dentistry options. Whether living with constant mouth pain or have a smile that one hides, oftentimes one appointment of Sedation Dentistry will correct these issues.
If care is going to take many hours and one would rather not be aware of what’s going on, Sedation Dentistry can provide that vacation. Goldberg performs many smile makeovers, as well as lengthy implant procedures; some patients choose for a sedation option.
Goldberg offers three different levels of sedation to help with fear, anxiety, and / or long procedures:
Nitrous Oxide, also known as “laughing gas” or “sweet air,” the patient breathes in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This provides a level of relaxation during the procedure. As soon as the procedure is completed, the gas is turned off and one returns to normal alertness.
OCS – Oral Conscious Sedation, also known as “enteral” sedation, this procedure utilizes some pills. Again, fear and anxiety are reduced, and relaxation ensues. Patients will require someone to drive them home. The next day, the patient will likely have either full amnesia of the procedure, or just a little recollection.
IV Sedation- for the fullest and most complete level of fear & anxiety control, Goldberg works with anesthesiologists who provide the greatest level of sedation. The medications are provded intravenously and constantly monitored. Among these three options, one will have the most relaxation, the least fear and anxiety, and the greatest level of amnesia.
Reasons patients request Sedation Dentistry:
Fear & Anxiety
Many people avoid the dentist for years and years due to fear & anxiety. That’s one of the reasons Goldberg is certified in OCS: to provide the care that many patients are too fearful to undergo otherwise. The way people’s lives are changed within a few hours is amazing! And when these patients refer their friends and family members, he knows that he is doing something to change people’s outlook on life.
Goldberg is a very well-known and respected implantologist. As an expert in the field, he performs complex procedures that can take a number of hours or concern patients due to the activities in the treatment room. Again, Sedation Dentistry offers a level of relaxation so patients don’t have to be involved in the procedures.
Again, Goldberg is a very well-known and respected general dentist. He treats many patients for full, comprehensive care, and just like the implant procedures, these type of makeovers can take time. Some patients wish to not be involved with the procedure, and opt for sedation.
