CCM To Institute New Art Award

County College of Morris (CCM), in collaboration with the W. Carl Burger Solo Art Exhibition at the CCM Art and Design Gallery, has instituted a new award. The New Jersey Master Artist Award will biannually recognize notable New Jersey artists who have an extensive record of exhibited mastery and service in the field of art and design.

CCM will recognize W. Carl Burger as the first recipient of the award. Burger is currently holding his first solo art exhibition at CCM’s renovated Art and Design Gallery with 29 of his works on display.

“People tell me there’s a life and energy in my paintings that excites them, that they never tire of,” Burger says. “That’s because I love it — the best part of painting is while actually doing it.”

The award was presented to Burger by Dr. Anthony J. Iacono, CCM president, at the opening reception of his exhibition at the CCM Art and Design Gallery on Wed., Nov. 9.

Burger is one of New Jersey’s most notable and beloved artists. He is a Stockton artist, professor emeritus of art from Kean University and former CCM adjunct professor. His work has been exhibited at some of the most prestigious art institutions in the nation including the Lincoln Center, the National Academy of Design in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Newark Museum, Montclair Museum, New Jersey State Museum and the Morris Museum.

Burger’s artworks are part of the permanent collections of British Airways, Warner Communications, American Telephone and Telegraph, Johnson and Johnson, Nabisco World Headquarters, Schering-Plough and Ortho Pharmaceuticals.

5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m., Fridays, noon to 4 p.m., and the
