Dive Into This Hidden Gem At Historical Society Meeting

The Mendham Borough Historical Society plans to meet on Tues., Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Garabrant Center. The program starts at 7:45 p.m. when Linda Barth presents, “The Delaware and Raritan Canal.” 
The narrated, power-point program asks many “Did you know” questions about the canal that has meandered for more than 170 years across the narrow waist of New Jersey and gives many surprising answers such as water supplier, tonnage, a distillery, Holland VI, World Wars’ duty, recreation, start-ups, famous names – all part of the lifetime of this somewhat hidden gem.
Barth grew up in the canal town S. Bound Brook; board member Canal Society of N.J., canal tour leader in the Northeast. A retired teacher and author, curator, presenter, she is an avid supporter of all things canal. Barth is president of D&R Canal Watch, a friends group of the D&R Canal State Park, as well as executive director of the League of Historical Societies of N.J.  The public is invited; parking and program are free.
