On Christmas Eve, the Morristown Fire Department brought holiday cheer to children who are hospitalized. Each year, for the past 26 years, the Morristown fire fighters that are on duty, and some that are not, pick up Santa on their fire truck and make their way to Morristown Memorial Hospital. The firemen act as Santa’s helpers by handing out toys to the children in the pediatric ward and in the ER.
Since 1990, the firemen have personally funded this endeavor.
FMBA 43 President Matthew Loughlin said, “they will make this trip on Christmas Eve every year no matter what.” He personally was moved by this tradition the first time he went. “There was an 18 month old little girl that had been admitted that day and her eyes lit up and that’s when I was sold on the program.”
Earlier in the year, the Morristown Fire Department spearheaded the Toys for Tots effort in Morristown. The turn out for toy donations was fantastic this year. These fine traditions where the Morristown Fire Department brightens the lives of children in need shows that the commitment that these men and women have for their job is boundless.
