Hanover Township celebrated Chinese New Year with a new Cultural Arts event, welcoming a record-breaking crowd of 270 to celebrate the Year of the Dog.
Erin You, a Chinese teacher of Whippany, presented the meaning of Lunar New Year to the bustling crowd. The “Lintet,” a world-class jazz band, arranged an original rendition of traditional Chinese music. The band leader, Peter Lin, is a Whippany Park graduate and professional jazz musician touring the tri-state area. There was a complimentary display of ancient Chinese calligraphy by Master Li, an 87 year old who immigrated to the United States from Guangzhou, China, in 1990. The program held a brief intermission in which attendees got to sample Chinese baos, almond cookies and bubble tea. The program closed with a red envelope take-away, enclosed with a golden chocolate coin.
