The Borough of Roseland is proud to launch a brand-new program that will honor Roseland’s veterans over the years and give them the public recognition that they deserve.
“Our veterans are the reason we live in the best nation in the world,” said Mayor James R. Spango. “I’m proud that we can take yet another opportunity to honor them for their selfless service.”
Banners will be hung along Eagle Rock Avenue between Borough Hall (140 Eagle Rock Avenue) and the Department of Public Works building (300 Eagle Rock Avenue). There are enough poles for the Borough to hang approximately 60 banners. If the Borough receives over 60 requests for banners, additional submittal requests will be placed on a waitlist as the Borough Council will then need to decide if they want additional banners placed on other roadways in the Borough.
The cost of $175 per banner pays for the banner itself, the cost to ship the banner to the Borough, the cost to have the banners hung on the poles, and some additional funding to be reserved in the event a banner needs to be replaced due to an act of God. The Borough will pick up the remainder of the costs involved that are not covered by the fee. The program will last two years, so someone who purchases a banner in 2022 will see their banner hung up in both 2022 & 2023 and have the banners given to them by the end of 2023. The program will reopen again in 2024 for 2024 & 2025.
Hometown Hero Banner eligibility is open to alive or deceased veterans that currently or had resided in Roseland at any point in their life OR the veteran is/was a family member (father, mother, husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother, great grandfather, great grandmother, great-great grandfather, great-great grandmother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law) of a current Roseland resident.
Residents can order a banner by going through an online payment form, accessed by clicking the “Online Payments” button on the Borough website, www.roselandnj.org. A Banner Order Form will also need to be filled out to process the information to be put on the banner, which is linked to on the Payment Form. A sample rendering of a banner can be viewed on the Borough website and on the Banner Order Form.
