For those budding middle-school-aged authors, the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona is sponsoring a short story creative writing contest. The contest is open to any students in grades six through eight who are enrolled in a Verona school or who live in Verona. Students may enter one short story, of any genre, that is up to 2,000 words in maximum length.
All contest entries are due on Fri., Dec. 16. Entries must be postmarked and mailed by that date to Junior Woman’s Club of Verona, PO Box 91, Verona, NJ 07044 or emailed by midnight on Dec. 16 to email@example.com. Entry forms are also available at the Juniors’ website, www.veronajuniors.org.
Be sure to complete and staple or attach an entry form to contest entry. Winners will be notified by Jan. 31, 2017.
First place winner will receive a $50 Barnes and Noble gift certificate and second and third place winners will each receive a $25 gift certificate. The first place winner’s entry will be sent for judging in the New Jersey State Woman’s Clubs Youth Short Story contest.
The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona is a versatile organization that has been involved in social and charitable work since its inception in 1926. The Juniors address Verona’s diverse needs by promoting education, preserving natural resources, encouraging healthy lifestyles, working on behalf of the elderly and people with disabilities, supporting participation in the arts and advocating for issues of concern to women children and families.
