Come celebrate the peak of the maple sugaring season with the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center.
The Maple Sugar Festival is set for Sat., March 4 from noon to 4 p.m. with a visit to the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham Township.
Watch tree tapping demonstrations, witness the steam billowing from the evaporator and become engulfed in the sweet smell of maple sugar. Enjoy a sample of homemade maple cream and taste-test a variety of syrups.
Take a guided ‘Hike Through Maple Sugaring History’ and discover how sugaring has changed since it was started by the Native Americans hundreds of years ago.
Spiles are on sale for those who are interested in making maple syrup at home, along with easy instructions on how to get started. A maple sugar farmer is on hand selling fresh syrup products, and food is available for purchase.
Admission is $4 per person age three and up. The event is held rain or shine.
