Students at Millburn High School won 20 Gold Key awards, 18 Silver Key awards and 25 Honorable Mention awards, many of them in multiple categories. One Millburn Middle School also earned an Honorable Mention Award.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition is the longest running, most prestigious national art competition for students in grades seven to 12. The awards represent work from a broad range of art disciplines including drawing and painting, crafts, sculpture, digital art and photography.
Students in Millburn Township submit their entries through the Montclair Art Museum, which operates as the Regional Affiliate for the Northern New Jersey Region. According to the museum’s email to award recipients, more than 1,462 students submitted works this year and there were more than 1,300 winners in the categories of Gold, Silver and Honorable Mention.
The works of all regional Gold Key winners are on display at the Montclair Art Museum’s Vance Wall Art Education Center Galleries until Sun., March 26. More information about the museum’s exhibit can be found at www.montclairartmuseum.org .
All pieces that won a Gold Key will now be juried for an award at the national level. Students winning a National Gold Medal or Silver Medal will be notified in mid-March and will receive their awards at Carnegie Hall in May.
An exhibit of Millburn’s Scholastic student art will be on display at the Millburn Public Library. All of the Regional Gold Key, Silver Key or Honorable Mention winning pieces will also be displayed at the Millburn School district’s Youth Art Month exhibit at Millburn High School set for Thurs., March 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
