Roxbury High School’s Peer to Peer Club, formally known as Peer Leadership, is sponsoring The Nutcracker on Sat., Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., at Roxbury High School. Tickets are on sale now for $10 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling Generations of Dance at 973-985-7239 or by emailing generationsdance@aol.com.
Peer to Peer Club is comprised of 98 students at RHS. These students work with freshman twice a month during their freshman seminar classes to teach the students mini lessons and assist them in the transition to the high school. The club helps build community and character building.
When asked why the club chose to sponsor this event, co-advisor Jennifer McCracken explained that “Each year Generations of Dance, a local dance studio in town produces the Nutcracker. Some students from Roxbury are in the production and we sponsor the group. 100 peecent of the ticket sales goes to the ELLE Foundation, a local charity out of Bridgewater, NJ that was established by Lauren Elle’s parents. Lauren passed away from cancer around the holidays and in her memory, this foundation gives children with recurrence cancer, their list wishes.”
According to the ELLE Foundation website, “the ELLE Foundation is the only wish granting organization whose primary mission is to grant wishes for children with a recurrence of cancer. Granting final second wishes requires an extraordinary financial commitment, but our Lauren’s passion inspires us every day, and our dedication to giving these deserving children a chance to forget, to laugh and to find their inner spirit is unwavering.”

In addition to sponsoring this event, Peer to Peer assists with other community outreach programs around the holidays.
“Some of the events we’re involved with this year is the Middle School toy drive and the winning homeroom will receive a bagel breakfast and a toy drive with the high school sports teams and the winning team receives a pizza party,” said McCracken. “Jimmy Dolan and the wrestling team will bring all the collected toys to Roxbury Social Services at Horseshoe Lake for needy families in our town. We’re also running a Toys for Tots Dance with a local dance school where we’re collecting food and gifts that will go to different organizations in need.”
