The Morris County Board of Freeholders has honored Eagle Scout Ryan Mangano of Scout Troop 188 in Landing that targeted needs of his respective communities, requiring hundreds of hours of volunteer efforts by the scouts and their project teams.
The freeholders presented certificates of achievement to some Eagle at the Board of Freeholders’ Nov. 21 meeting in Morristown.
The freeholders praised the youths for completing the service projects that earned them the Eagle Scout designations, which is attained by just a few percent of Boy Scouts nationwide.
Deputy Freeholder Director Hank Lyon said “The work they’ve done is impressive and they further exemplify the merits of the young men and women in Morris County who are involved in scouting.’’
For his Eagle Scout project, Mangano, a senior at Roxbury High School, executed what he termed “The Beautification of Shore Hills Beach” in Roxbury.
That included tearing down and rebuilding the gate guard house and life guard stand, plus refinishing the pirate ship that is a play favorite of kids in that community.
The project was his way to “give back’’ to the beach community of his childhood.
Mangano participates in the high school marching band and the baseball team, and is an avid recreational basketball player. He plans to attend college and major in civil engineering.
