On Wednesday, July 14, 2021 the Wayne Public Library’s Virtual Lunchbox Learning Program will be “Songs of the Suffragists: Lyrics of American Feminism 1850 – 2020” presented by Laura Engelhardt, Songs of the Suffragists Project, League of Women Voters of Berkeley Heights, New Providence & Summit. From the right to vote to the right to be free from violence, American women have campaigned for equality.  But the women’s movement is more than a mere political fight, it’s a cultural battle for American hearts and minds.  It takes laws to make change, but it takes change in the hearts and minds of the public to get those laws considered by politicians and passed by the legislature or the courts.  This free, virtual program includes a 25-minute documentary focusing on the intersection of music and politics in the Women’s Movement, which will be followed by an author-led conversation based on the book and film “Songs of the Suffragists.”
